Give. Advocate. Volunteer.
Every year, the United Way invests in Knox County to support agencies and initiatives that enrich the lives of community members.
As with all of our funding efforts, we focus on initiatives that support our core pillars of community work:
Youth Opportunity, Healthcare and Wellness, Financial Stability, and Community Resiliency.
The United Way is pleased to offer two options for short-term funding. Both programs are meant to introduce applicants to the world of grant seeking with straightforward applications and simple reporting requirements. Applications are reviewed every other month by their requisite committees and finalized at United Way Board of Director’s bimonthly meetings.
Launched in 2018, the Timely Grant Program offers quick, flexible funding for urgent needs, such as pilot programs, capital projects, and one-time initiatives.
The Timely Grant may also be used to introduce an agency to the United Way outside of the regular long-term funding cycle.
To qualify for a Timely Grant, a program must:
-
Identify a community need within one of our core pillars and propose a plan to address said need
-
Be affiliated with a 501(c)3 nonprofit
Caps for Timely Grant awards are set annually by the United Way Board of Directors.
Women United, an affiliate group of United Way, seeks to serve the community by supporting local initiatives and projects that impact women and children, specifically in the areas of: women and/or girls in leadership, female health, and equal opportunity education. If you have a program or project that fits these goals, you could be considered for a Women United Grant. Women United Grant applicants do not have to be affiliated with a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
Long-term funding is designed for year-round support of community agencies to further their work to strengthen Knox County. The application portal opens October 1st with follow-up presentations in mid-November. After committee review and board approval, awards are paid in monthly installments throughout the following calendar year.
To qualify for long-term funding, applicants must be affiliated with a 501(c)3 non-profit with a governing board of directors. Reporting requirements are due biannually. As long as reporting requirements are met, programs may renew applications annually.
Please reach out to our Program Coordinator, Kristina Hageman, with questions about long- term funding.
